ABOUT MAURITIUS
Mauritius is situated in the south-west Indian Ocean, A little above the tropic of Capricorn with a latitude of 20° south and a longitude of 57° east of Greenwich. It is 2,000 km off the east coast of Africa and some 855 km east of Madagascar.
The island considered as a paradise by people around the world, is a dream holiday destination for tourists with its breathtaking crystal clear turquoise lagoons, white sand beaches and its near-perfect climate.
An island of volcanic origin with an area of 1,864 square kilometer, it is almost entirely surrounded by coral reefs. Enjoyable and beautiful though, Mauritius is also a safe place to live either as a national, professional, student or family. Crime prevalence is very low making Mauritius one of the safest law-abiding countries of the world.

Mauritius is 4 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +4) and 3 hours ahead of mid-European time.
Currency
The monetary unit is the Mauritian Rupee (Rs.) which is divided into 100 cents (cs). Coins exist as 50-cents, 1-rupee, 5-rupees, 10-rupees and 20-rupees. Notes exist in the following denominations: Rs 25, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000. There are no exchange controls in Mauritius.
International Airport
The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, also known as Plaisance (code: MRU) is approximately 48 kms from the capital city, Port Louis. Facilities include VIP lounges, duty-free shops both on arrival and departure, restaurants, banks and a Post Office.

Economic and Political Stability

The island is saved from extreme temperatures during summer and winter, with a temperature ranging between 25°C and 33°C during summer and 17°C – 25°C during winter.
